If you’re ready to step up your engagement in the climate fight and help Extinction Rebellion achieve exponential growth in the DMV, then our neighborhood group initiative might be right up your alley!

On Saturday, August 1 at 3pm, join XRDC for an information session on setting up a neighborhood group in your area. We’ll be covering the basic growth strategy, how your neighborhood group will fit into the larger XRDC structure, and what accountabilities you’ll be signing up for.

For the past 18 months, the DMV has had one central XR local group - XRDC. As we move forward and continue to grow, we are feeling a need for a new structure that can activate more volunteers, build up local connections, and allow for exponential, fractal growth. We believe that a structural expansion is necessary for our group to grow powerful enough to force government action on the climate crisis.

For these reasons, we are hoping to seed Neighborhood Groups across the DC metro over the next few weeks. We are envisioning these neighborhood groups following the same trajectory as all XR chapters - starting small, adding members, specializing in work areas, and eventually becoming fully autonomous local groups of their own.

We are currently seeking dedicated and passionate volunteers to step up as Neighborhood Group Stewards to help get neighborhood groups started in their area. The neighborhood group steward role relates specifically to getting a neighborhood group up and running. Once the group has momentum, the steward role ends, and they can take a different/more specialized role within their neighborhood group. XRDC will offer resources, guidance, and support throughout the process.
