The megaphone is one of the most powerful tools in an activist’s arsenal. If you want to learn how to wield this mighty instrument and turn your voice into a thundering roar for climate justice, join Extinction Rebellion DC at one of our upcoming Rebel Rouser Trainings!

One of XRDC’s most seasoned rebel rousers will be sharing knowledge and experience on how to use the megaphone effectively. The rebel rouser plays a crucial role at our events, keeping the energy high, letting passers-by know what's going on, and keeping people from getting bored.

This training will cover all the best songs and chants to use at rallies. But beyond leading chants and songs, a rebel rouser needs to be able to come up with stirring speeches on the fly. Luckily, that’s not nearly as hard as it sounds! With a few helpful tips and a little practice, anybody who’s passionate about the climate crisis can take command of the megaphone and turn the energy at a rally up to 11.

When we are out on the streets blocking traffic, every squad of 25-50 people needs at least one rebel rouser. That means we need a lot of rebel rousers! People who have a background as performance artists, or drill sergeants, or who retain an abundance of climate facts in their memory at all times, or who have been to a lot of rallies and protests all make great rebel rousers. But anyone who’s passionate and willing to be loud in front of a lot of people can become an excellent rebel rouser with a little bit of training.

Please note – this Zoom version of the training will be FAR less effective than the in-person version being offered on Thursday, March 5! Please try to join us in Dupont Circle at 6pm on Thursday, March 6 if at all possible. Yelling or chanting into a video conference just isn’t the same as the real deal.
