We demand a just transition that prioritizes the most vulnerable people and indigenous sovereignty; establishes reparations and remediation led by and for Black people, Indigenous people, people of color and poor communities for years of environmental injustice, establishes legal rights for ecosystems to thrive and regenerate in perpetuity, and repairs the effects of ongoing ecocide to prevent extinction of human and all species, in order to maintain a livable, just planet for all.
In the past, periods of great change have left the most vulnerable people at the greatest risk of poverty.
Unless climate and social justice objectives are united, the most vulnerable, frontline communities, indigenous and people of color, and poor communities will unfairly bear the brunt of ecological and climate breakdown.
We all want and deserve a world in which our children have a healthy environment and can thrive. But today’s politicians and crooked corporations care more about profit than people and they are busy running their industries in a way that’s destroying the environment for all of us, but especially for frontline communities, indigenous and people of color, and poor communities. And then these politicians and crooked corporations turn around and seek to divide and distract us, telling us we should blame black and brown people, indigenous people and immigrants for the scarcity we all confront. But when we come together and build cross racial alliances we have the power to make sure that the government works not for corporations and major polluters but for all of us - and for the planet.
